Aluminium sailing yachts
Increasingly, shipowners are turning their attention to aluminum sailing yachts due to the cheapness of the material, ease of operation and comparative durability.
Such boats are purchased for individual use, as the construction of the hull is fast. Also, the ship is designed for operation in shallow water, in cold climate, mooring in unequipped places.
Pros and cons:
Aluminium as a material combines the best indicators of steel, wood and plastic, but is devoid of their drawbacks. For example, it increases the capacity of the vessel and allows it to be taken to the open sea in all weather conditions. Also, the metal is light enough to make the boat fast and manoeuvrable.
The disadvantages of aluminum should include the known softness of the material. Aluminium sailing yachts are easily deformed and damaged even from a minor impact or impact. On the other hand, it will absorb the energy of the impact and make the collision as safe as possible for passengers. The price of metal should also be considered a disadvantage. But given that it is easy to process and cost-effective, quality boats are much cheaper than steel or wood products.
Modern shipbuilding uses aluminium alloys with silicon and magnesium, which eliminate natural disadvantages, such as corrosion, softness.
After the beginning of operation of the ship, the owner should regularly monitor the condition of the hull: to carry out routine painting, to correct defects, to open as necessary anti-corrosion agent. Aluminium should also be prevented from contacting other metals (steel, copper, cast iron, lead, etc.) with rubber pads, which will significantly reduce the risk of corrosion.
It is known that aluminum sailing yachts are made on an individual order, but mass production is also possible.
